Soapstone-Carved Book

A soapstone carving of a book. The small, but heavy rectangular stone is carved to distinguish the 'cover' from the "pages". It has incised horizontal lines on the binding, with a marblized and somewhat gold-like surface decoration; it was probably used as a bookend.
