Somes Sound

Gray hills with bay or river running through them. There is a sailing vessel putting in to shore where small group of buildings are clustered.

Barnigat Bay and Beach.

Gray sky, gray-green water, beige-peach beach. Old, dark-brown hull of boat washed up on beach. Lighthouse in distance. Large sailing vessels on water. Seagulls in sky. Delicate effect.

Church.

Muted white, brown, and black. Majority of picture seems to be chalked, while front of church definitely has a thick layer of paint. Very good details. The back has a number of notes (some illegible): "Lenox, Mass. - after photo"; "The clock presented by Fanny Kemble to Lenox Church has bee replaced...

District School House and Wood House.

Similar to ORS4.169 in material and color. Upper portion of picture shows building apparently on hill and seen from below. Two sides are shown. Little else in picture, except for some stones going up hill and some trees around building. Muted and blurred effect.

Study of oddly shaped house with a mass of vegetation almost covering façade. Bits of other buildings seen at left. Good details of house.

Building made of brown wood next to body of water. Looks like a saw mill - pile of lumber near by. Building is not entirely closed in - large open sections. Stone wall supports part of the building. No information about this except for place and date in lower right corner on front.

Old Store, Sudbury, now Wayland.

Buildings, private homes, along a street, with one small, one-story building in foreground. It is painted red with dark shutters. A length of fence, perhaps as a guard-rail to a brook, is next to the store. Details are good. A nearby house is porticoed. Store built early 18th century.

Corn Court off Faneuil Hall Square

A note on the verso reads "The tall building at the rear is the Exchange Building at 53 State Street." The red brick building on the left is the Hancock Tavern.

General Gage's Headquarters, Battle of Bunker Hill.

Very clear and well-detailed painting. Stone cellar can be seen. Two redcoats stand guard and march in front of the house. Surprisingly, a different color pull-shade (?) is seen in four of eleven windows - 3 green, 2 white, 1 blue, 1 red.

John Lynde House, Washington St.

Large house with 3 chimneys (built about 1700, according to note). Colors of house are blue and brown; this may be artistic license. Lilac bush in front. Large tree on side of house. Good details. Note says: from original painting - A. Lamprey - 1906.

Appleton Homestead.

White, green-shuttered salt box (built 1650) with addition that looks like a barn. Pump in yard. Small outbuilding next to pump. People and buggy in front yard, over which spreads the branches of two very large trees. Colors are predominantly green and beige with a little muted red.
